omraldicon – an icon to use on a voluntary basis to denote that a web asset has been created using artificial intelligence?

The use of an icon to denote that a web asset has been created using artificial intelligence (AI) can be desirable for several reasons.

One of the main purposes of the icon is to overtly inform viewers that AI has been used in the creation of the asset.

This can help users understand the role of AI in the asset’s creation and appreciate the benefits that AI can bring to the development process.

Initial designs of the omraldicon are 540 x 540 px .png image with a transparent background.

This provides those who choose to adopt the icon with a variety of colours, textures and opacities to be used to complement each AI generated asset.

Additionally, the icon can help build trust between AI systems and users by providing transparency into the workings of an AI model and how it reaches its decisions.

The use of an icon can also help mitigate the risks posed by AI, such as bias and discrimination, by encouraging companies and individuals to consider the societal risks that AI systems can pose (and to publicly report AI systems’ capabilities, limitations, and areas of appropriate and inappropriate use).

As at the time of this page’s publication (April 2024) there is no standardised icon for denoting the use of AI in web assets.

The omraldicon may, therefore, have role to play.
